To My Neighbor

I lift you higher,
lift you out
of your body cells
stuffed with anxiety
of your past -
an evil load that smells.

I'll fill each cell
with love and joy
that makes the
angels dance.
You'll glide through earthly
filth and stench -
a spiritual trance.

From your youth filled eyes,
your hands
and feet,
a holy peace shall flow,
so you and I
be filled with grace -
let us be still
and know.

Seelentränen sind Gedichte,
rot mit Herzblut aufgeschrieben,
tiefem Menschenleid zum Ruhm,

Lies sie still in reinem Lichte,
unbeschattet,
frei von Trieben:
Du betrittst ein Heiligtum.

                Cut Your Chains

No hell can fashion chains so cruel,
as the past has forged for your tomorrow.
Are your emotions still attached to yesterday?
They will pile up more ashes, hot and gray.

Watch, if the thoughts another breathes into your mind
link yours to his bondage.
His past may crave companions to create
a future of revenge and hate.

Woe if your thoughts are links in a national chain
that keeps tradition's booted legs as serfs!
You and humanity are one.
Tradition puts faith in the gun.

Cut yourself loose from your neighbor's door,
loose from the greed complex of the nation.
Your appointed time is not of yore,
today is the day of salvation!
